How to pay public transportation in Belgrade. New system starting from 17.05.2023.
Introduction to the New System
Belgrade, the vibrant capital of Serbia, is a city that's always on the move. As part of this dynamism, the city is introducing a new payment system for public transportation starting from 17th May 2023. This system aims to streamline the process, making it easier and more convenient for both locals and tourists alike. Let's delve into the details of this new system.
Understanding the New Payment System
The new payment system in Belgrade is a card-based system named Belgrade Card. This card will replace the traditional ticket system that has been in use in the past. The Belgrade Card will be used for all forms of public transportation in the city, including buses, trams, and trolleybuses, ensuring a unified and simplified payment process.
How to Get Your Belgrade Card
As of today,(17.05.2023) a new public transportation system is in place in Belgrade, and tickets are now purchased via SMS, although paper tickets can still be purchased at several locations in Belgrade
Validators have been eliminated, and tickets are no longer validated. Instead, tickets are paid for by sending an SMS message, and the return message sent by the system to the passenger's phone serves as proof of payment, which is shown to the inspector.
Passengers send an SMS to the number 9011, with the message text A90, B90, or C90 depending on the zone for which the ticket is being purchased, provided that the ticket is valid for 90 minutes from the moment the message is sent.
For the first zone, the message should be A90, for the second zone B90, while C90 is used for a ticket that allows travel in both zones.
The same applies when purchasing a daily ticket, except that instead of the number 90, the number 1 should be entered. So, for the first zone, the message reads "A1," for the second zone "B1," and for both "C1."
For those who do not have a phone or simply do not want to pay for a ticket via message, all these types of tickets are also available in paper form, they can be purchased at ten locations throughout Belgrade, and on almost every kiosk.
Purchasing a ticket from the driver is not possible in the new public transportation system
Application
The mentioned application can now be downloaded via "Google Play" and is also available in English.

However, it is only available to Android phone users.
The "App Store" does not offer the "Belgrade Plus" application, only unofficial ones such as "Bus + Payment" which direct the user to an SMS ticket payment.
Online Top Up ( They still working on it )
In a bid to make the process even more convenient, the city has also introduced an online top-up service. This means that you can add credit to your Belgrade Card from the comfort of your home or while on the go. All you need to do is visit the official website, enter your card details, and choose the amount you want to add.
